Nutritional Counseling & Supplements

Nutritional Counseling

Diet is one of the biggest aspects we can control that directly affects our pet’s health. A high quality diet will act to provide support to the immune system, help the body work more efficiently and can prevent health issues. We will evaluate your pet’s current diet to determine if it provides adequate protein support.

Occasionally, a prescription diet is recommended to achieve optimal effects. We most commonly utilize Hill’s Prescription diet:

  • Hill’s j/d diet: This prescription diet helps to preserve joint cartilage, helps to maintain healthy weight, supports the immune system and  reduces inflammation in the joints due to high concentration of Omega 3 fatty acids. Pets fed this diet oftentimes can have reduced  medication dosage, which then reduces side effects.
  • Hill’s Metabolic diet: This prescription diet has been clinically proven to work with your dog’s metabolism to lose weight. 96% of dogs will lose weight in a 2 month period and keep it off.
  • Hill’s Metabolic + Mobility: This is combination of the two food described above! You get the benefit of weight loss and joint protection!  It’s a win win!!

For special need patients or clients that prefer a homemade diet, we work with the veterinary nutritional specialists at the University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine. Click here for more information.

Nutritional Supplements

If you are happy with the diet you are currently feeding your pet, we may suggest adding supplements to get the benefits of the anti-inflammatory effects of Omega 3 Fatty acids and Joint protection.

The supplements we commonly use are :

  • Dasuquin Advanced
  • Nordic Naturals
  • Movoflex

Nutrition is a vital part of your pet’s recovery and general health. We offer Hill’s therapeutic diets for our patients. However, we can also evaluate your pet’s current diet to be sure it provides what your pet needs. Additionally, we can also work directly with a board certified veterinary nutritionist to formulate homemade diets for pets with special requirements.

All sessions are by appointment only.
Call 417-860-2429 to schedule a session.

Rehab sessions generally last 45 minutes. During this time, we have the patient do a variety of activities as well as pain relieving techniques if needed. We prefer for the pet owner to NOT be in the room during the sessions as this is distracting to the pets in the gym. We need the pet to focus on us to get as much out of their session as possible!

We are happy to take pictures and videos so you can see what your pet is doing in therapy and monitor the progress.

If your schedule won't allow for a specific appointment time, we do offer day boarding for an additional fee. You can drop your pet off on your way to work and pick up later in the day.

Please be on time to take full advantage of your pets' scheduled session!
